Administrator's Program Guide

Professional Development

Introduction

  1. The Division of Adult Education and Literacy has placed a significant emphasis on staff development to enable each adult education staff member to meet the needs of their students. The Division also funds a statewide resource center to guide staff development activities. The North Dakota Adult Education Resource Center (NDAERC) is located in Bismarck.
  2. It is recommended that each staff member develop a professional development plan at the time of submitting the program proposals.

Credit Courses

  1. University credit courses must be in the field of adult education and/or related that will benefit the local adult education programs.
  2. Local program funds may be used to support such courses; however, prior approval by the local program director must be obtained, and must comply with the local agency guidelines.
  3. A local program director wishing to participate in such courses and requesting reimbursement must obtain prior approval from the State Director of Adult Education and Literacy and also must comply with the local agency guidelines.

Membership Fees/Dues

  1. Membership dues in professional organizations relating to adult education may be an allowable cost if there is a local agency policy to that effect.

Attendance at Annual Conference

  1. Attendance at the annual adult education staff conference is expected of all instructional and support staff. Volunteers who are currently helping in the program, and need in-service, are also welcome.
  2. Attendance costs related to the conference are an allowable budget cost, unless these costs are reimbursed by other sources.

State Sponsored In-service Meetings

  1. If the state Division of Adult Education and Literacy sponsors and in-service/meeting, it will be the responsibility of the state office to reimburse the cost unless the costs are covered by other sources.

Locally Sponsored Meetings/In-service Sessions, etc.
