North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Wayne G. Sanstead,
is currently serving in his twenty-sixth year as state superintendent
and is the nation's longest serving chief state school officer. He brings
an extensive background of legislative, executive, and educational leadership
to this position. Prior to his election as superintendent of public instruction,
he served in elected office for nineteen years including: eight years
as state representative, two years as state senator, and eight years
as lieutenant governor of North Dakota. He has been recognized nationally
as being the "highest ranking classroom teacher serving in public
office."
Dr. Sanstead received his bachelor of arts degree in
speech and political science from St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minnesota
and his master's
degree in public address and group communications from Northwestern
University. He earned his doctorate in secondary education from the Center
for Teaching
and Learning at the University of North Dakota. |
