Transition Follow Up Study

In compliance with the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) performance goals and indicators, the ND Department of Public Instruction, Office of Special Education, has been working with the ND Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University, to develop a transition follow up study to document the post school outcomes of student with disabilities. The Special Education Performance Goals and Indicators can be found in its entirety at http://www.dpi.state.nd.us/speced/idea/biennial.pdf. As it relates to transition, the following apply:

Goal: To improve results for children with disabilities to help them meet challenging standards and prepare them for employment and independent living.

All students with disabilities are interviewed prior to graduation / exit from high school and contacted at one and three years post graduation / exit. Beginning in May 2005 this study will include students without disabilities. Reports of statewide results as well as local unit data continue to be made available to transition stakeholders across the state, the Transition Steering Council, IDEA Advisory Committee, local special education units, and local school districts.
